In heart of our community lies a hidden gem – Two Rupees Brewing Co. Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of south-east Melbourne, this brewery stands as a testament to craftsmanship, tradition, and a passion for great beer. Join us as we delve into the story behind Two Rupees Brewing Co and the creation of our custom craft beer.
Crafting the Vision
Coming from hospitality background in beer bars and outlets for more than 8 years as well as tasting beers around the world, the founders at Two Rupees Brewing Co had the inspiration to start a brewery. They wanted to craft something extraordinary with an immerse degree of passion for craft beers. As such, they opened a brewery in Clayton in 2019 and strategically became a market leader in south-east Melbourne within the beer industry.
The name Two Rupees came about by incorporating both founders’ Sri Lankan heritage. They wanted their brewery to have a catchy name and has a strong association to their culture.
The Brewing Process
The founders wanted to specialize in IPA and hazy IPA beers as well as sticking to their themes for micro-breweries. When asked why such deep interest on IPA beers, the founders advocated that IPA beers have so much flavor filled with multiple varieties. However, the brewery does not stop at IPA beers, eventually they expanded to include more beer varieties to allow their customers to explore more options.
Overcoming the Biggest Challenge
As the founders were having high hopes opening up Two Rupees Brewing Co in July 2019, they were faced with an unexpected challenge presented in early 2020 with COVID impacting all businesses. Thankfully, the local community were really helpful by supporting local businesses which the founders are extremely grateful for. And coming out of COVID to this date, Two Rupees Brewing Co has set a strong reputation in Melbourne’s beer scene with major craft beer outlets started to stock their beers. It was the proudest moment for the founders to see their efforts being recognised.
Staying Strong in the Industry and Looking Forward
Two Rupees Brewing Co continues to be the market leader in south-east Melbourne with its good quality IPA beers supported by their colourful beer can designs. Testing and developing new variety of ingredients and technology will be the core of what Two Rupees Brewing Co do on a regular basis. What’s next for Two Rupees Brewing Co? Well, the founders do have an expansion plan in the next 5 years to increase their seating and production capacity.
